Miami-Dade and the Keys, administratively joined

Under the Medicaid restructure that took effect in February 2025, Miami-Dade and Monroe became Region I together. The same pairing applies to aging services: the Alliance for Aging, Inc. is the designated Area Agency on Aging for Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.

That matters practically. If you are calling about Medicaid Long-Term Care eligibility, the Alliance for Aging is the correct starting point, and it is a different organization from the ones covering Broward or Palm Beach. Families who have moved between South Florida counties often call the wrong one first and lose weeks.

The hospitals you are likely to be discharged from

Jackson Memorial Hospital houses the Ryder Trauma Center, the only Level I trauma center in Miami-Dade verified by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. HCA Florida Kendall Hospital holds a Level I trauma designation as well, and Jackson South Medical Center is a Level II.

Nicklaus Children's Hospital carries the Level I pediatric trauma designation and draws families from well beyond Miami-Dade.

Language, and why we mention it here rather than everywhere

Our caregivers include Spanish speakers and Haitian Creole speakers. In Miami-Dade that is not a marketing line, it is the difference between a caregiver who can follow a conversation about medication and one who cannot.

We are also honest about what it is and is not. We looked at this properly: search demand for home care in Miami-Dade runs overwhelmingly in English, by something like twenty-five to one, even in a county where Spanish is spoken at home by most households. People search in English and then choose in their own language.

Haitian Creole is the harder one to source and the one families ask about most often in the north of the county.

Paying for care in Miami-Dade County

Miami-Dade County is Florida Medicaid Region I together with Monroe, under contracts that began in February 2025 and run to 2030. Humana, Sunshine Health, Simply Healthcare and Florida Community Care carry Long-Term Care benefits in every region of the state.

If you are not enrolled in Medicaid Long-Term Care yet, eligibility screening for this county runs through the Alliance for Aging, not through the agencies serving Broward or Palm Beach. Starting with the right one saves weeks.

Medicare is narrower than most families expect. It funds skilled nursing and therapy after a qualifying hospital stay, and funds home health aide visits only alongside those skilled services. It does not pay for ongoing daily personal care.

If a long-term care insurance policy exists anywhere in the family paperwork, bring it to the assessment. Older policies often carry better daily benefits than families expect. We verify coverage at no charge before the first visit.
